Paul and Ralph Bradley's Model Airplane Page

Mentioned by both Pat Tritle on air space and Richard Cox on gallery this month, here is an absolutely delightful website packed full of information and pictures of small free flight, electric and micro r/c models belonging to Paul and Ralph Bradley from the Greater Houston, Texas area of the USA. Free plans of a large number of the models featured are available for download from the site, whilst other plans are available for purchase.

Paul and Ralph are brothers who have shared a life long interest in model aviation. They state that their page is intended to 'serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas with people who share an interest in model aircraft', but in fact there is no conventional 'forum' type content on the site at the moment, but the exchange of ideas, etc., is achieved through the links page which carries some good links to other free flight and electric powered r/c websites.

The main body of the site actually consists of a nicely arranged photographic record of the three categories of models by type, together with specifications and links to the plans, where available.

In additition to the main collection of models, there is also an extremely interesting page entitled Techniques and References, plus another useful page of Downloadable Plans, including reproductions of the 1950's Top Flite Jigtime models and the Carl Goldberg all balsa sheet models referred to by Pat Tritle on this month's 'air space' page.

The Techniques and References page deserves special mention, because it carries some very useful articles including one by Paul Bradley on a process for printing directly on balsa using an inkjet printer! Any inkjet printer that has a 'straight-through' paper feed mechanism can be used, although some printers may require the removal of some toothed guide rollers that might otherwise cut your balsa into strips! The effect is really very striking, as can be seen from the little model shown here and which can also be seen in Richard Cox's contribution on gallery. Another article gives details of a modification of the process to allow printing on tissue.
