Issue 79
December, 2003

Hi friends,

As a general reflection of our hobby, ModelFlight generally contains a predominance of material on fixed wing activities, now with an increasing amount of electric-powered models featuring in one way or another. However, ModelFlight has, from the outset, been open for model flight enthusiasts of ALL disciplines and it has been great to receive contributions this month relating to several branches of our hobby that pop up only occasionally (in fact, we have a couple of 'firsts'). On this month's pages you will find items relating to free-flight, soaring, aero-towing, competitive helicopter flying, CO2 and spark-ignition engines

Included this month is a special gallery of models of early planes to mark the Centenary of Powered Flight that started when the Wright Brothers made their first halting, but nevertheless successful, flights over the sands and dunes of Kittyhawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903. Further, there is our first-ever lady appearing on personal profiles - welcome, Sharie!

Thanks to the efforts of Tom Girling, I can now offer you Paul Cook's increasingly popular Twiglet plan as a .pdf file, which makes it available to those without the drawing software to view and print .dwg or .dxf files. Find out more about this version of the plans at the foot of the flying doctor page.

Regards to all, and seasonal good wishes to all who recognise and celebrate Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all!

This month's opening screen:

Tony Woods with his Rosenthal Red Bull aerotow tug, powered by a 80cc Boxer engine. See this lovely model in action on photo gallery and meet Tony on personal profiles. Click the minipic on the left to return to the cover screen or the thumbnail on the right to see the picture alone.
