Issue

January 2003
Hi
Friends,
First
of all, many thanks to
those
of you who sent me kind Christmas and New Year greetings - including
a REAL Christmas card from Clive Bussey from the Netherlands,
which I very much appreciated.
My
Big Computer Crash certainly gave rise to a lot of problems last month!
I won't bore you with all the details, except to say how grossly disappointed
I was with Dell Technical Support - talk about frustrating . . . ! I
managed to salvage work from my hard disk with the help of a local computer
supplier who removed my drive, rigged it up to one of his PCs and copied
vital files off it for me, including the December issue which was complete
and ready to go! After that, my PC had to go back to Dell (despite my
having a Next Business Day on-site warranty, but we won't go into that,
either!) from whence it was returned 10 days later!
I
also had a two-week old back-up of my address book which made it possible
for me to contact most of you, but if you expected to get a reminder
for the December issue but didn't, then please read the special note
at the top of the post box page - thanks! I have now re-designed my
desktop (left) with a bold notice that states 'back up before powering
down' so that I receive a timely reminder to
myself to back-up
just as I am about to shut the computer down!
Andrew Donatelli has kindly sent me the necessary
information to provide a link to his very useful r/c related search
engine, and this now appears at the foot of the post
box and main links
pages. I hope you will find it useful - I already have! Thanks, Andrew!
I haven't received much feed-back on your response to
the appeal for r/c bits and pieces for the Albanian 'Eagles' Youth Project
that was featured on the December
issue, but I do know of one kind ModelFlight reader who has
sent two model kits and another who has donated a full set of radio
gear (four servos, receiver and crystal, switch harness, nicad and servo
extension lead).
A
very Happy New Year and warm regards to one and all!

This
month's opening screen
Here
is Pat Tritle's beautiful 1914
Curtiss Pusher, the
design and construction of which we have been following from the
word 'go'. This shot was taken on her maiden flight on 28th December,
and despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, Pat reports that
she flew well.
Read
about the final stages of construction and Pat's summary of the
maiden flight on work in progress.
