Manx Model Flyers was formed in 1968, as the Manx Model Aircraft and Boat Club. During the 1970's the club split into two separate clubs and Manx Model Flyers was born. The club has grown in strength to around 90 members, flying mostly radio control, both power - including helicopters - and glider. The power side benefits from the use of Jurby, a disused airfield, while the gliders have a huge choice of sites on the hills all over the Island. In actual fact, the club has three power sites available to it, including one at Ronaldsway Airport after it is closed for full-size movements.

As well as a very full calendar of flying events, Manx MF also has a very active social club where a club meeting takes place every Thursday evening. The clubhouse and its facilities, pictured above left, are available to members at any time and social events include the occasional special social evening during the winter as well as a few camping weekends, sometimes arranged in conjunction with informal flying competitions. A club newsletter is published several times a year.

The club has a very nicely-designed web site with a main menu of four categories - News, Events, About, and Gallery - each carrying subdivisions. The design of the site and the navigation system is very professional, although I could find no mention of a designer or webmaster to whom I could give credit! There's details of the AGM and a list of officers, as well as fixture dates and a list of members and their flying frequencies.

Among the events mentioned, I noticed what is probably the main one of the year, the Manx Commemorative Model Meet 2002 which is being held from 22nd July to 1st August - it's an international event open to all who enjoy flying and modelling camaraderie - sounds good!

And how about those galleries that I love so much? Well, they are brilliant and carry some of the best-quality images I have come across on the web for a long time. There are three galleries, one each for power planes, gliders and helicopters. The power gallery is subdivided with pages dedicated to individual member's models. I don't know whether all the photos are by one individual - the consistency of the quality made me think they might be - but I must give credit to the un-named photographer(s). There's an MMF member's model on our opening screen and one or two more on photo gallery including some from ModelFlight reader Don Meyrick, whose club this is.
