Barry Slater
I'm just reading through your latest
edition and I came across the reference to grisoft.
I have been using this anti-virus programme for some time now and can assure
you it is first class. People in this part of the world can find it at www.grisoft.com
The programme is free, unobtrusive and
effective. Hope this has been of some use, keep up the good work and may I
wish you and yours all the best for the coming year,
Regards, Barry (Slater)
Thanks for that, Barry, and also your
good wishes. With the recent
spate of worms, viruses and hoaxes I have certainly found my virus detection
software both valuable and reassuring!

From Jack Jet Williams - short but definitely
sweet . . .
This is really good - where is your
turbine page?
Jack
Many thanks for your e-mail and its
kind comment, Jack - much appreciated.
I would love to have a turbine page,
or at least some material on turbine interests from time to time.
Unfortunately, it's out of my league right now, so if you - or anyone
else reading this, of course - would like to contribute on the subject
you would be most welcome! You could have a dedicated regular page or
make contributions as you feel able - the space is here waiting for
you!
I did cover a meeting of the British
Gas Turbine Builders Association that I attended last summer,
I've had a few nice turbine models on the photo gallery and I have also featured
Wren turbines on my 'cats corner' page, but that's been it so far.

Just found your site from link from
Flair . . . it looks great. |
Here's Grapher on
the subject of SC engines.
If spares are like
the engines then they will be cheap. I have an SC .30 and it is
the sweetest of all my engines and will tick over so slowly and yet
reliably that one can see the propellor as a "still" now and
again. These engines make a splendid example of the tripe
some folk talk when they know nothing but what they hear in club
bars. I was told by one of the elders of a local club never to buy
SC because it stood for Simply Crap! It's a good job that I make
up my own mind or I would have missed this gem of an engine.
I would be pleased to
see that on your site as I think that SC are unjustly damned by the
like's of that guy. My two best engines are the SC .30 and my
Laser .70.
Grapher made this
comment when I mentioned to him that I was waiting for a spare carb for
my SC engine.

Phil Hayward
explains about those tree surgeons listed on his website!
Hello Reg,
You
mentioned my list of tree surgeons on no.50 - this has proved
very useful to our club members. I have made a note of the ones that
will come out on Sundays to rescue models. I have offered the list to
flyers, they usually say they are not daft enough to fly a model into
a tree, later in the year they ask for a copy! This list should be
printed and carried in the car.
I carry balls of
string and thin rope for pulling models out of trees. Our club has
purchased a 10-metre carp pole that we use to dislodge models.
It's perfectly
true - everybody seems to end up in a tree at some time or other! The
carp pole is a good idea. |
Norman Harris wrote from Burlington, Canada
Thanks for the very nice plug
for the Burlington club [featured on #51], I must say I felt quite
proud.
Just to show that I build other than small FF models here is a photo
of my recent T-28 from an old Bridi kit [see photo
gallery].
All my stuff is at least 20 years old,
brand new - I saved it up for something to do when I retired. I worked
it out that I have to live until at least to 135 to completely finish
building my various projects . . .
As a matter of interest, I am still
flying an old Pat French design/kit of the Economy Bipe
fitted with a Enya 60 and one of the first Futaba 27m/h FM
radios; this year it has completed 25 years of flying. It is the first
plane into the air in the spring and the last one I put away when the
snow flies, the only replacement parts fitted in this time was one
servo (this year), and of course nicad batteries.
Now a question. I am building a Dave
Banham 1/4 scale Miles Magister, I have a lot of photos of
the aircraft except the flaps area. In the Miles book it
shows one aircraft with the flaps down with a centre flap under the
fuselage; in a picture of one of the preserved aircraft it shows the
centre flap missing. Which is correct, or is the centre flap an air
brake?
Hope someone can answer this for me
Very interesting about your old but new
stuff, Norman - I hope you get them all finished!
I feel certain that one of you folk
reading this can answer Norman's question - if you can, please e-mail
me with the answer so we can all know! Copy Norman
in if you like, otherwise I will pass on the answer to him.
Norman, I hope we will get some
shots of the Miles Magister project - please!
