Tim Costello
A fortune awaits the person who will write a proper, UNDERSTANDABLE,
instruction booklet for the Super Nova 250 charger.
Who will do it?
Let me know....
The opportunity of a lifetime! If
you've seen such a publication anywhere, PLEASE let me know.

Hello Reg,
I have just finished reading through your web

John Duxbury's progress
(or lack of it!)
Hi Reg,
. . . I thought I have to let you know what is happening with the Laser 200
seeing as you haven't seen anything from me for months.
Basically not a lot is happening with
it; I live in Bedfordshire and have been working in Plymouth for the
past couple of months so time for building during the week is now non
existent and other commitments (and a cold garage) at weekends has made
progress very pedestrian to say the least.
To be honest progress slowed up before
I started working away, when I 'arrived' very heavily with my Vectra
glider, this caused a bit of damage to the 2-piece wing and split the
fuselage. The Laser was put to one side whilst I repaired the Vectra. I
repaired the fuselage which now needs a bit of filler and a coat of
paint to look like new but I haven't even looked at the wings yet. Ah
well it least it keeps me out of mischief!!.
Regards,
John.
I guess we all sympathise with
John's busy-ness. I'm retired, but still don't get round to everything I
want to do!

Chris
Barker links up
Would you be prepared for a mutual
link?
My site is www.euro-sailplanes.co.uk
Incidentally - we distribute the
aerofzd models here . . .
Regards
Chris Barker
It's a deal, Chris!
Chris's request timed very nicely
with all the sailplane pictures that came in for this issue, so I've featured a couple of his products on cats corner.

Chuck has found some treasure . .
.
Hi . . . I have a chance to purchase a
Schluter Heli Baby in perfect shape with engine and extra parts.
It comes with water pontoons also. It does not come with the radio
or starter. Any idea what this is worth?
Thanks,
Chuck/South Milwaukee, WI
I am sorry I cannot give you a value
of the Schluter, Chuck, as it is not a heli that I can find much
information on. Is it the same as the Schluter Super Heli Baby, which is
regarded as a bit of a classic from around 1975, as pictured here?
If so, there's a guy on a uk website
who has also just bought an original kit and is building it right now.
He may be able to give you some idea, so his e-mail address is rcheli@modelaviation.co.uk
and you will find a bit about it at http://www.modelaviation.co.uk
There is also a Schluter enthusiast
who is happy to answer queries and he can be found at hkaplan@compumedia.com
- I think H
Kaplan is his name, but I'm not dead sure.
Sorry I can't be more helpful
myself, but these guys may well be able to help. I will also publish
your request on the post box page of my next issue of ModelFlight.
Anybody able to advise Chuck? E mail
him, please, at chuck@sniderandcompany.com

Paul McIntosh:
Dear ModelFlight,
I have included a link for your site on
my web. Please include me on yours!
Only too pleased to oblige, Paul, and
thanks for the link.
Paul trades as Desert Sky Model
Aviation and his site features some good electric models and accessories,
a nice trainer, bearings, engines and a couple of cute little airboats that
will even go over wet grass or snow!
Go to http://fly.mcintoshcentral.com
- the link is also permanently on our suppliers links page.

Can
anyone help my friend Jim Barnett?
Hi Reg,
Could I ask you a favour?
If you have time and it's not too much
of a pain could you ask if any of your ModelFlight readers
know anything about an R/C kit called a Skytrain and it's made by
GEMINI.
Any info would be nice, like how old is
it?; are they still in business?
Glad to oblige, Jim. If anyone has
any information, please e-mail Jim at jim@barnett10.fsnet.co.uk
See Jim's lovely little D11 slow-fly
on photo gallery - nice one, Jim!. |
Paul Waller writes from Tasmania,
Australia
Interested to read about the uncertainties
surrounding charging nicads. I have just started playing around with
electric flight and am about to build a 'smart' PIC controlled charger
so I'll be interested to do some hands on experimenting with these
things. Could you possibly email me with the article you mentioned from
Smart Fastchargers about the development of their product which
incidently is made in the same State of Australia that I live in! (I'm
not planning on going into competition but I love building my own things
- a good way to learn!)
And thanks too for an excellent read
each fortnight. Keep up the good work. I'll try to submit an article
sometime soon. I'm a member of the Hobart Model Aero Club which was
featured recently in your Club Scene I think.

Paul Waller

An article would be great, Paul.
Keep us posted on your self-build charger - sounds most
interesting! Hobart MAC was featured on ModelFlight #34 -
read about the club from club
scene #34.
The Smart Fastcharger continues to
generate interest. If you missed the article and the review on issue 48,
you can go to it via the following links. The article is on airspace
#48 and the review is on catscorner

Mark Oakes has a problem
. . .
Hello Reg,
I have received issue 49, keep up the good work, excellent stuff.
I wonder if you may be able to help me with a little problem?
I recently picked up a second-hand Precedent Lo-boy (without
checking it out too thoroughly). I have stuck an OS40 FP in it and it flies OK except that it is
very, very snappy on
the controls. When I viewed the model as it was flying towards me I saw that there is a
definite anhedral on the main wing. The wing itself is a foam veneered one piece
wing. I think the flight chararistics
would be improved if there was dihedral to this wing. How would I get dihedral into this wing, or should I think
about getting a two new two part wing with a dihedral brace?
Your comments would be appreciated, along with any recommendations of
any suppliers who could do the job.
My local model shop man, Neville, and I
both doubt if the Lo-boy actually had anhedral and suspect it might be a
construction problem, although if the wing really was a one-piece item
from the start, it's difficult to see how it may have occurred. We think it would be unusual
for the wing to have been delivered in one piece, though, and even
wonder if a brace was put in upside down!
Nev says he has known folk literally
saw a wing in two to correct dihedral problems, but I guess you would
just have to insert a small correcting wedge and re-glass the joint
since inserting a new brace would be virtually impossible.
With Balsacraft having ceased the
Precedent range (I think) I don't know if or where a new wing could be
obtained - does anybody know?
