Hi
friends,
I received
quite a few items of a gliding nature for this issue, so there is a bit of a
theme popping up on various pages. I must say, the large scale gliders look such
beautiful creations, but I've never looked into the source or the cost of these
models (which I imagine is pretty high!). Do they come as kits or are they
purchased ready made - indeed, are they even stock items or only supplied to
order? Naive questions, probably, to those of you who know, so tell us more,
please. I note that on Southampton Soaring Society's new website, there's a
Sailplane Database which includes information on suppliers, so I must go and
take a look!
Geoff
Graham sent congratulations to Chris Hardie on the success of his Blohm &
Voss model and asked Chris what was next. Well, Chris tells me that he's just
going to get on and finish a few outstanding and unfinished standard models he
put to one side whilst building the B&V, including one or two jobs for
fellow-flyers. Incidentally, I was right about Chris's first flight with the B&V also being his last -
it was up for sale at our local model
shop when I went there shortly after!
By the
way, my son Tim tells me that he never uses a magnifying glass
when painting those lovely 'flats' of his which I featured on hotchpotch last
time - it's all done with the naked eye. It's true, now I come to think of it, I
can't recall seeing him use one - it must be old age playing tricks with my
memory! I corrected #49 for the sake of accuracy and the archive, of course!
I wish you
all a very happy, peaceful and contented Christmas! Thank you for your good
wishes and your continued interest and participation on this site which
continues to be such a wonderful extension (and a challenge!) to the hobby for me.
Regards to all,
