THIS is the page for
aero-model pictures - your own, or others you've seen at the club or at
a show; they are all welcome if they're nice to look at!
If you're not into digital photography or
scanning pictures, why not send some photos by regular mail? It's not too
pricey; a batch of five or
six photos costs $1.00 airmail postage from the USA, for example. My address is on
home
page. |

Here's
John Stewart from Perth, Scotland, with his beautiful glider, and
just look at that magnificent scenery! Like a few more of you, John is also
a cat-lover - and his favourite is over there on the right! |

Marc Hauss with
his 10m Nimbus |
Tony
Baker of the Southampton Soaring Society, kindly sent this interesting account of the SSS Scale Aerotow Meeting
held on 1st/2nd September and which was an absolute sell-out! Credit
for all the pictures belongs to Tony.
With around 21 overseas pilots
attending Middle Wallop Airfield near Andover, UK, from all over the
World - including two from Mexico plus two more from South Africa! - this
year's scale aero-tow event was slightly different in as much that it was
not the customary SSS tough scale competition, but more of a huge two-day
scale aerotow "Fly-In" . All you were required to do was to
just turn up with your glider and then queue up, hooking up onto the back
of one of the many tugs in attendance.
On the Saturday evening a "Jazz
& Blues" social night was arranged in the Middle Wallop Museum
Conference Room along with a superb buffet meal. With bright sunshine
all day on Sunday we again saw Frenchman Marc Hauss, one of the
very best of the European glider demonstration pilots around, putting
his giant 10-metre Nimbus:4 (plus his truly outstanding
huge 9-metre Grob-103:Akro) through its paces by flying the
full size glider aerobatic schedule from around 1000ft just like the
real thing. It's the first time I have ever been to an event
and heard a big watching crowd all gasp in unison as he ran this big
85lb machine fast and inverted no more than 1ft off the runway each
time!!

Carlos'
latest masterpiece
Take a look at one of Carlos Garcia's
latest pieces of beautiful aviation artwork. This is Dick
Cunningham's F-4J Phantom II. Cunningham (today Senator) was a U.S.
navy ace who flew in Vietnam. This artwork was made for the US. Navy
Museum in San Diego, California and is shown here with Carlos' kind
permission. See more of Carlos' work on http://fly.to/carlosagarcia/

You
might recognise this rather nice pits area as the Paldalen location
where Tore Loodin and his pals meet from time to time. This picture was
taken by Jngve Johanneson at a recent meeting and shows Rolf
Tolstoy preparing his Red Zephyr for flight. The
old-timer on the bench looks nice, but I'm not sure what or whose it is. |

On the left, one of the lads (Thomas) with his Thunder Tiger Shark and

Ian Savage's 'Happy
Fly'
Steve Webb's Models Happy Fly 20 is an ARTF
with a fully-built-up structure, a symmetrical wing of 46" span and
an area of 431 sq in. It was designed for a ·20 - ·30 glow engine, but
Ian has installed a Jeti Brushless motor IS/4 and a Jeti sensorless 40
amp controller with BEC. He will be using 8 cells (9.6v) with a Graupner
8 x 4 Slimprop or an Argonaut 8·5 x 6. Weight is 46 - 48 oz, depending
on the size of the cells (1700 - 2400 mAh) giving a wing loading of
under 16 oz per sq ft.
Ian has converted the landing gear to
larger wheels and the model is now a tail dragger, his reason being that
he has used mini servos, with a larger servo - an Hitec HS101 - fitted
in the wing for the ailerons. Ian feels that these smaller servos are
not powerful enough to steer the nose wheel.
The picture below of the nose close-up
shows Ian's home-made motor mount containing the 138 gram Jeti IS/4
motor - should get all the air cooling it needs, he says! |

This is
John Marchant with his very nice VMAR Chipmunk (sport
scale). It is powered by a Thunder Tiger ·46 and looks very nice in the
air at around 1/3 throttle. John has flown it a couple of times and is
still making minor adjustments to the thrust line, etc. |
