No 44
September 22, 2001

Hi friends,

Before I started this website I did not personally know a single American citizen, but ModelFlight has brought me into contact with a considerable number of you, some of whom I now regard as real good friends. To all North American readers, I take this opportunity to offer my profound sympathy over the dreadful events of the last couple of weeks - you have been much in my thoughts.

Maybe because we all had so much on our minds since the last issue of ModelFlight appeared, I found myself with a dearth of material for this issue, but my little dilemma was solved once I let you know. Many thanks to those of you who have submitted items in the last week and have given us this issue, which I trust you will find enjoyable and interesting.

Tony Baker, scale glider enthusiast, professional photographer and model magazine columnist, sent me a good report on the very successful Southampton Soaring Society Scale Glider Aerotow Meeting that was held at the beginning of September, and you will find it on photo gallery. Tony's winning formula for a successful event like this is unique - some pretty girls to look after the guests, sponsorship from a brewery and participation from top Continental scale pilots! I don't know how he does it, but it certainly works!

Also from SSS comes a great opportunity to visit the Dortmund Model Show next year - you will find details on club scene.

Please take a look at the new hotchpotch page and see what you think of it! If you like the idea, then please tell me and perhaps send something in. We'll give it a go for a few issues, but if it doesn't work, then it's coming off!

Regards to all,

UK tug pilot, Colin Bond (left) about to tow up Phil Hoegger's (centre) 1/3 scale Fox for its maiden flight, aided by Terry White, ex Purbeck Sailplanes, in the red coat. The picture was taken by Tony Baker of the Southampton Soaring Society at their Scale Aerotow Meeting held at the beginning of this month. Click the mini-pic on the left to return to the cover screen or the thumbnail on the right to see an unobscured view of the shot. There's more from this meeting on photo gallery.
