If your national flag isn't shown, it's because you haven't written to ModelFlight yet . . . !

My thanks to John Anderson, John Cinderey, Gerry D'Cruz, Frank Shears and Denis Wolff for their kind comments on the site. Denis is still suffering from his fall some weeks back - hope things improve soon, Denis.

Welcome to Mark Atkins, Clive Bussey, , 'pjonker', Ian Savage and Dean and/or Melissa Williams, whose names have all been added to the ModelFlight mailing list.

Here's Frank Shears

I started reading your ModelFlight #41 this morning and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. Keep up the outstanding work!  I'm already looking forward to ModelFlight #42.  I especially like your cover page.

Nice to hear from you, Frank, and thanks for your kind words.

Frank is editor of RCezine, a great web magazine which I reviewed last December. Click here to see the review via the archive or here to view the latest issue - it's well worth a visit!

Clive Bussey has just joined us . . .
Hi.
I'm new to the net but a long time modeller wanting to return to modelling after a lengthy 'non-operational' period. I hope to enter the helicopter scene in the not too distant future, so I'm looking on the web to see what's available !!.
Regards
Clive.

Welcome, Clive - and keep us posted!

Question:

Reg, where can we get Denis Bryant plans for the Magister?  I always loved this a/c when they regularly flew overhead as a lad! - Geoff

Answer:

One source is the RCM&E plans service. The Magister plans are available for £13.75 + p&p, code DEL07

  Kind words from John Anderson

Reg,
Thanks so much for the wonderful things you put on your web site. I greatly appreciate it and can't think of enough words to thank you for it.
John

Very nice of you to write, John; it's your contributions, though, that make ModelFlight worthwhile as far as I'm concerned.

Now's your chance!

I represent an R/C Business for sale in Florida, USA  - if you know anyone interested or where I may advertise for this, please contact Keith Lehmann
USA 321-277-3377  or keicor@earthlink.net

Please forward this on to any possible interested parties!

. . . and that's what I'm doing, folks! If you buy it, I promise I'll feature it on ModelFlight!

Romanticism on the flying field . . .

Yesterday evening as I approached our site, Gordon was flying his Flair Tiger Moth.  From half a mile away, viewing from my moving car, the aircraft could very easily have been mistaken as a full size, if only briefly.  By 2000, a guy had arrived who flies full size airline stuff for a living.  Transpired that he had qualified on a Tiger Moth many years ago and of course he got all dewey-eyed and reminiscent.  It was dark when we broke up the pleasant gathering and de-rigged the models.  Temperature was still about 80F!

That nice little incident was recounted by Geoff Graham - sounds wonderful, doesn't it!

Graham McAllister of Graham McAllister Designs says:

Thank you for featuring my web site on 'ModelFlight'.You have made a most interesting site there, interesting material and a nice style. I will certainly visit again and pass your address on to friends. . .

All the best,
Graham

Graham's company now has a permanent link on the suppliers' links page. His site is a must if you're into electric flight! He's just finished setting up his Guest Book and gone 'live' on the web - take a look!

John Cinderey likes ModelFlight!

Hi Reg,

Visited your site upon seeing it in the news group; with the wealth of info available it will be my site of the week next week at
www.westcumbriarc.f9.co.uk

I will also link you in to my site from the resource links.

You may wish to visit my site and check it out, I have just put up the first 8 pages of pictures from Woodvale which joins those that I have from Telford. More to come including future meets, Catton hall and the Nats.

All the best

John C

I'm flattered at your choice, John!

There's a review of John's site on site seeing and you can meet him on personal profiles.

Tom Watson's next project

Tom in the moth.jpg (20565 bytes)I am just starting a new model. It is a 1/4 scale DH Moth Minor. I have just received the foam cores and purchased the plywood.

The Moth Minor was all plywood covered, so I hope to be able to simulate the real thing. I have located a full-size Moth Minor at Bathurst Airport. The owner let me climb all over the thing (see picture) and I took about 100m digital photos. Construction will start soon. I will keep you informed.

The finished model will be 9' span. It will have a Saito 150 engine.

Sounds a very interesting project, Tom; thanks for the promise of things to come!

Tom has just finished building an SR Batteries 'Cutie' - read all about it on work in progress.

Zdenek Drbil helps me out with my query about 'unmovable slots' on the 'Bumble Bee', referred to on #41. Thanks, too, to Denis Wolff for a similar explanation.

I can explain to you what 'slots' are. In your picture of the yellow Z-37, in front of the wing and at the end of it, there are two flaps (at the left and right side of the wing). This device serves for better flying characteristics of the wing during slow flying.

You can see it, for example, on the wing of the German Fieseler Fi-153 Storch (Stork). The Russian fighters Lavotschkin La-5 and La-7 (WW II) had the slots too. They were automatically thrown up at low speed.

klencispring.jpg (39132 bytes)Thanks, Zdenek - really most interesting. Apologies, too, for the confusion over your name which I mis-spelt every time on the last issue.

Zdenek sent me this lovely panoramic shot of his home town, Klenci under Cerchov, in all its spring-time beauty.

Can you help Jeffrey Bean's dad?

My father is returning to modelling after several years lay-off. He has a number of Merco engines both aero and marine, some in need of spares/repair. I believe Merco is defunct as a company.

Can you confirm and do you know of anyone who deals in spares either UK-based or elsewhere?

If anyone has some old engines and/or spares kicking around, my father may be interested. I'm sure there are loads of such things lurking in attics and sheds. Finding them is something else!

I'm afraid I couldn't find anything about Merco engines anywhere. The nearest I got to it was MECOA engines, so if anyone else can help answer Jeffrey's question, please e-mail him at salesteamfocus@btinternet.com
