| I visited a very interesting personal
website a week or so ago and contacted its owner to ask if he would introduce
himself through a personal profile, including a few words about his
site. The site itself is featured on site
seeing, and here is the man behind it.
John Cinderey
I am 46,
married to Anne and have 3 kids, we live in West Cumbria (UK). I am ex Army (14yrs) then a PC with Cumbria Constabulary until 1997 when I was
injured and am now wheelchair bound.
Prior to this I was active with mainly sporting type pursuits
- 4 martial arts, fell walking, mounting biking, keen gardener and a motorcyclist to
boot.
After the injury I spent a couple of years adjusting to the changes in
my life etc, basically became reclusive, then last year kicked myself up the
backside, looked at finding an interest to get me back in to social
circles and to occupy my time. Plucked up courage to visit the local flying
site, fell in with a good bunch.
Flying wise I did start out i/c but followed the electric route.
After a
bit of playing around with it am now mainly an electric powered
flight person. Imagine January, blue skies but loads of brass monkeys running
around looking for welders! Just get up to the site with a friend who assists with unloading, get
given the plane, a battery and the tranny then bung in a battery, do pre
flights and get on with flying. Independence at its best.
I had previously tried rocketry but it was a solitary pursuit and I had
to have someone with me to recover etc, but I had put a basic website
together for this. Then, knowing that I had a computer and had tried designing a web site before,
some members suggested a web site for the club, so I
spent a couple of weeks to sort it out then went online at the end of November
2000. Since then I have made changes and it has kind of evolved into what it
is now. I mainly learnt as I went along.
I am fortunate to have made a few contacts who in turn have contacts and
at any shows I am able to get to I get on the flight-line and chat to
pilots about their models. I have worked at publicising the site at shows, plus
adding it to web search engines and requesting exchange links on good
sites such as yours.
The response I had about the video clips of the electric stuff flying
has been overwhelming and that's why I put up the pages about the Pico Cub
mods and the battery page, these covering the most questions asked by email.
I always welcome suggestions and questions then look at ways of
incorporating it into the site.
I hope to improve the site further with the compilation of kits
available for E-Flight and am working on a data base covering main content of r/c
magazines. This is a long term project because I have had magazines donated
to me that date back to early 80's!!
Thanks, John - it's good to get to
know you!
