Hi
friends,
archive
launched!
I am very
excited to tell you that, with this issue, I am launching a complete archive of
all back issues of ModelFlight.
This has been
made possible with the invaluable help of Gary Clemans-Gibbon who runs his own internet
hosting company and who has kindly attended to the practical business of
setting it all up technically.
The
archive replaces the function of the 'take your pick' page which I previously
used to show requested repeat items. The archive is headed by an index that shows the content of back
issues under several categories (articles, personal profiles, etc.) but even if
you are not looking for anything in particular, you can simply choose to browse any
issue just for fun. The archive is accessed seamlessly from the current
issue and has nice big navigation buttons to return you to the index for more
browsing, or to the current issue of ModelFlight.
To get to the archive, just click on the 'Modelflight archive' button in the
main navigation bar at the top of this or any page and then click again on the
main page title that comes up. I'm making it a two-stage process like that so
that new visitors to the site can read a brief explanation of what the archive
is about before using it.
I have had
a few late nights and early mornings, preparing all my back numbers and uploading them to the web over the
last few weeks - I needed to add a couple of navigation bars to every page of
every issue to make it easy to use the archive - and I must say it was quite fascinating to see all the ground we
have covered over the eighteen months that ModelFlight has been running. I found
myself browsing the old issues myself, and enjoyed looking again at
some of the many lovely models that have appeared on the photo gallery in
particular (I've ear-marked a few to repeat on our opening screen). I haven't actually indexed all the model pictures, but might do so
later. It was also interesting to see the way the site has evolved - take a
look at the very first issue, then issue 2, for example, to see the way the
design has changed!
I hope you
will use and enjoy the archive and decide that ModelFlight
is a site worthy of your contributions! If you haven't participated before, why
not now? Thanks again, Gary.
Read about
another kind gesture I've enjoyed on air space!
Regards to all,
