  • Tell us all about your model flying club and report on your activities. E-mail me with some idea of the sort of facilities you have, size of membership, types of model flown, social activities, reports of special events, site availability, guest arrangements, frequency of meetings, location, or anything else you can think to mention. Pictures will also be most welcome, and if you want to send me pictures by conventional post, my address now appears on the home page. If your club has a website, let me know the address and ModelFlight will pay you a virtual visit!

A new club with a brand-new website to promote it.

Sandhays Scale Gliding Association is a new model flying club that meets and flies from a glorious 14-acre countryside site in north Lincolnshire, England, not far from the town of Bishop Norton.

Contrary to what the club name may suggest, Sandhays SGA is not exclusively scale gliding, but is "dedicated to relaxed flying of scale gliders, electric power and quiet, vintage i/c power" - all reflected in the club's "Mission Statement" of the pursuit of relaxed quiet flying with the minimum impact on the countryside.

clubfield.jpg (18206 bytes)At the present time the club has just a few members and is keen to recruit more like-minded souls to share the delights of both the hobby and their superb site which has been specially graded and sown with new grass. Those interested can contact Gordon Veal at wgveal@globalnet.com

A new website has been launched to help promote the club. Designed and managed by Geoff Graham - a valued contributor to the pages of Modelflight - the site consists of one main page, a contact page giving details of the club's location, and an events page announcing a weekend aero-tow scale gliding event in August . The next stage of the promotion programme is to be more local, with carefully targeted eye-catching posters and open days.

There is a nice collection of images on the main page, giving a glimpse of some of the aircraft currently being flown at the club - including a very nice Super Cub tug employed for aero-towing - and, as usual, one or two have found their way on to our photo gallery. If you visit the site, you will recognise one or two of Geoff's models that have appeared on ModelFlight -we watched him build at least one of them on our 'work in progress' page.

A few of us from Test Valley Model Flying Club dropped in on the GTBA (Gas Turbine Builders Association) meeting organised by Kit Wallis and friends of the Esher model flying club on 23rd June - here's one or two interesting pics that I brought back, although I am sorry the details are very sketchy.

The jet helicopter was fitted with a Wren factory-special turbine engine into a modified Futura body.

The Harrier was powered by a ·91 size ducted fan motor and was flying experimentally in the hover.

Tore Loodin and the lads obviously had a pleasant day at their recent second annual mini-fly meeting organised by Tore, held at Påldalen, Sweden. Here's a selection of pics from a batch that Tore sent, all taken by Rasmus Ehrengen.

Ingvar Claessons' diesel driven Diamond Demon - that communal field table looks good, don't you think?
