It's true! It would be good to meet YOU on this personal profile page, so please join the fun and send some details of yourself, your family, modelling and other interests and anything else you care to tell us about, and let's get to know you!

You can either e-mail your information from the post-box at the foot of this page or use the Response Form below - and if you've got a picture of yourself, so much the better!

SWEDEN, CANADA AND ENGLAND are represented in no less than three personal profiles this issue - I just love this page!

Allow me to introduce LARS WINBERG and his wife, Maria, who come from Sweden. We've seen some of Lars' models on a previous issue of ModelFlight and now we have the opportunity to meet him.

I have been in the hobby since about I was ten. But I had a period when, between motor-biking and being a father, there was no time for constructing and building models for about 20 years.

Twenty-four years ago I started up the hobby again. My wife Maria and I live in Täby, a town close to Stockholm. I am the chairman of a club with about 45 members. But sad to say there are only about 15 members who do flying regularly. My main interest has been scale but some other projects have also caught my imagination. satyr test1.jpg (28117 bytes) Our mate Tore Loodin did push me to build an old-timer this winter and so I did. It is a Satyr drawn by a Czechoslovakian in 1943 (picture right). It is very nice and docile to fly. I enjoy to do my own plans which give me the freedom to choose a lot of models. Right now I have a Laird LC-DW-300 Solution on my drawing-table. It is a challenge for the coming winter season. I include pictures of some models from my hangar. Not all of them are in life anymore - they have been grounded not only by age.

Lars sent me a brilliant portfolio of pictures of his models, the rest of which are up on the photo gallery. Judging by the quality of the pics, including the two portraits, I'm guessing that either Maria or Lars (or maybe both) are very keen photographers! The Laird solution would be interesting for our 'work in progress' page, Lars . . .

Here are GEORGE AND LORRAINE JARVIS from eastern Newfoundland, Canada

George got involved in R/C flying only last fall. He currently has a Sig LT40 ARF that he is learning on, a Great Planes Big Stick 40 ARF that sustained heavy damage from a receiver failure crash (it will be rebuilt, he says), a Sig Four Star 60 that's just about ready for it's first flight, a Great Planes Taylorcraft half built and a Top Flight 1/7 scale Spitfire partially built. That one is next winter's project, apparently. The Spitfire is George's favourite aircraft and his model will have flaps and retracts and will have the markings of EN398 first flown by an RCAF pilot, Ian Keltie. George tells me that EN398 later became Johnny Johnson's machine with the call sign JE-J. "As you can probably tell, I enjoy the building as well as the flying," George says. I must say, that's an impressive amount of building for such a recent recruit to the hobby!

gerogetuition.jpg (17529 bytes)George belongs to the St. John's R/C Flyers Club, a great club that George says is very helpful and which has been featured on ModelFlight's club scene and photo gallery from time to time. In February of this year, George spent some time in Monterey, California and did some training with Ray Smith of Hobbies Aloft (right), which he says was a great experience. He goes on to say, "Unfortunately, our winter was terrible this year and I lost most of my new found skills by the time I could get flying, several weeks ago. But the weather is now improving and I look forward to being able to fly safely by mid summer."

George has always been in love with the idea of flight. In 1981 he earned his private pilot's license and owned a share in a Cessna 150 for a number of years and he's also flown Piper Cherokees. Whilst he hasn't flown privately for some time, he says he now enjoys the thrill vicariously by building and flying his radio-controlled models.

As well as his interest in model flying, George is also a keen wood-turner and produces some beautiful work. He and Lorraine also offer bed and breakfast from their lovely home in the heart of historic Brigus. George has an attractive web site that is the subject of this issue's site seeing page.

Meet DAVID SIMMONDS from Winchester, England.

David is a company Managing Director who comes from the historic city of Winchester, England - the ancient capital of Wessex where King Aelfred burnt the cakes and later founded a bus company (just a little in-joke for those who come from that part of the world!).

David is married to Janet and they have three grown-up children.

David has been in the model flying hobby for 50 years, on and off, and currently is actively interested in vintage power aircraft, sport sailplanes and 1/4 scale sailplanes. He belongs to Southampton Soaring Society, Hampshire Model Flying Association, SAM Zero and Beaminster Model Flying Group. You can find out more about Southampton Soaring Society on club scene.

David's current fleet is impressive, to say the least, and consists of :

10' vintage "Southerner", OS 90 4-stroke
8' span vintage "Majestic Major", Laser 70 4-stroke
7'6" span vintage "Radio Queen", Merco 61 twin plug 2-stroke
21' span "Nimbus" 1/4 scale glider, retracting wheel, aerotow release, spoilers, etc.
16'6" span vintage scale "Rether" glider, spoilers, etc.
9' span "Solus" glider
6' span aerobatic wing glider

MajesticMajor.jpg (21611 bytes)There's a couple of shots of the large gliders that David goes in for on the photo gallery page, and here's a charming picture of one inquisitive grandson, Toby, checking over David's Majestic Major - which is a 1.5 x Junior 60, David tells me.

Join in the fun, send ModelFlight an e-mail and tell us about yourself, your family, hobbies and interests, what you do for a living, how long you've been model-making, what club you belong to, etc. - in fact as much or as little as you see fit. Include a picture of yourself if you can.

Your e-mail address will be shown unless you specifically ask for it not to appear. Picture files ideally need to be in JPG format for best colour reproduction and to minimise time on-line.

If you want to send me pictures by conventional mail, my address is
