The
Atlantic Society of Radio Control Modelers, better known as AS/RCM,
is located on the east coast of Canada, near Shubenacadie, Nova
Scotia (not so very far away from our friends at St. John's R/C
Flyers, Newfoundland).
Founded
in 1974, the club has a membership ranging from 10 to 80-year olds and
enjoys some good facilities on their field located on the farm of Koenraad
Mostert. Alongside a well-prepared and mown strip, there is now a
permanent shelter and a useful set of field tables for a more
comfortable approach to preparing your model for flight.
The club welcomes visitors to use their flying
facilities whilst in the local area, provided they hold a current
membership to the MAAC, the national model flying organisation of
Canada. Guests are also welcome to visit the field to watch the fun and
to get to know more about the club and the hobby.
The
club's website is attractive and straightforward - not too many 'layers'
to lose your way. I really liked the picture you see here on their home
page, nicely illustrating in a different sort of way what sounds like
the club motto, "We're Worth the Walk!" - I wonder if that
means you have to leave your car some little distance from the field!
You can see the topics covered on the site from
this mini reproduction of the home page. The gallery pages are very
nice, each carrying just a few fair-sized images rather than lots of
thumbnails. I noted that they are still "under construction",
so perhaps webmaster Ed Harpell may have to resort to thumbnails
when he gets more pictures or perhaps he will just add more gallery
pages, but for the moment it's nice to see decent-sized pictures
straight away!
There are some good links on the site, too,
including one to Al Eastman's own site which carries some
interesting details of planes of his own design and for which plans are
available. I'm guessing that Al flies with AS/RCM as there are some
shots of him, his son and his planes on the club gallery - and one on
our photo gallery page as well, together
with a couple of pictures of other members in action.
