Hi friends,

NORM KIRTON has sent a full report on the Australian National Championships which finished just one week ago as I put this issue on the web - you can't get much more up to date than that! Although the report will obviously be of special interest to all Aussie model pilots, I hope that you will all find it interesting to read about a huge 7-day competition such as this, covering so many disciplines within the model flight world - I certainly did. Norm has a huge gallery of pictures of the event which includes models of shapes and sizes that I didn't know existed and I have selected just a few to accompany his report, which is on club scene. Thanks, Norm, for all the work you put into the report and setting out the full results, and congratulations on your own successes in the competitions.

If you have a particularly nice picture of aviation interest - model or full-size - that you think would look good on the new opening cover page, please send it to me. If it's not one of your own photos, though, please make sure I won't be infringing copyright if I reproduce it on ModelFlight.

I don't believe in fairies, luck (good or bad) or things that make other things go bump in the night, but there might just have been a gremlin or two loose on our flying field recently! Six out of the nine of us who were flying had problems of varying degrees - Dean stalled his Tiger Trainer on its maiden flight, Neil crashed his beautiful new Cap 232, Chris's Comet destroyed its wing on a tree that got in the way, the ailerons on Pete's Cub locked up (just saved by Martin who landed it on rudder only), Tony's delta wing took several nose dives and Colin stamped on his Prankster and, although I can't swear to this, I believe I saw our venerable Chairman abort a take-off as he detected a set-up problem just in time! I managed a decent flight with three fairly good take-offs and landings - I must have been lucky!

Regards to all,

The background image on the opening screen is another of Argentinian aviation artist Carlos Adrián Garcia's paintings - this one is of a Mentor. Click the mini-pic on the left if you want to get back to the cover page or the thumbnail on the right if you would like to view the image. There is a link to Carlos' website on the links and post box pages of this issue. These images are ©Carlos A Garcia and must not be reproduced without his permission. 034Mentor.jpg (33451 bytes)
