  • Tell us all about your model flying club and report on your activities. E-mail me with some idea of the sort of facilities you have, size of membership, types of model flown, social activities, reports of special events, site availability, guest arrangements, frequency of meetings, location, or anything else you can think to mention. Pictures will also be most welcome, and if you want to send me pictures by conventional post, my address now appears on the home page. If your club has a website, let me know the address and ModelFlight will pay you a virtual visit!

steelcity.jpg (15076 bytes)On the last club scene, I mentioned the spectacular Flying Circus model airshow put on each year by Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Club. In preparation for this year's show on August 11 and 12, the club is busy building Steel City, one part of which is pictured here. This mock city will appear to be blown to bits in this year's Flying Circus WWII tribute. The club is now looking for accessories to complete Steel City, such as vehicles, tanks etc.

Marty Jarvis's club

North West Aeromodellers describes itself as a small friendly club of about 40 members, ranging from pre-school toddlers to "long since retired". The club is situated in the Burnie and West Pine area of north-west Tasmania. It is affiliated to the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia, Inc., the national organisation offering the usual insurance, competitions and other facilities to aeromodellers.

The club's grass strip flying field is located at West Pine, and is in use most days of the week, weather permitting. A couple of excellent slope-soaring sites are also available to members.

NWA have a lively diary of events throughout the year, covering gliding and pattern competitions, scale and fun-fly days, fly-ins and an "All Models" day when members are encouraged to bring out their most unusual and least-used models for all to see! Social events include a barbeque (recently held) and a club Christmas Dinner.

This is the home page of North West's web site, kicking off with a nice welcome and a column of links to the content of the site. From here you can browse a variety of pages giving information about the club, diary dates, access to a new Australia-wide model flight forum and chatroom called Aeromodellers Australia for which NWA is the host club, articles, competition results, links, weather reports, contacts and three galleries, including two rather unusual ones!

The main photo gallery displays some 25 thumbnails of models and club activities, including the BBQ and Christmas Dinner, and I have put a couple of members' models up on our photo gallery this time.

Additionally, there is a set of 13 pictures (is that just coincidence, I wonder?) under the title "Oops!", and you can guess what they cover! The willingness of model fliers to show their most horrendous crashes really is a great fun element of this hobby, I must say!

isaac skultety.jpg (32225 bytes)The other unusual gallery is entitled Members and is a pictorial list of members, each with a brief biogaphy - 41 are shown so far, almost all with a thumbnail linked to a larger image. Here, I was able to test that claim that North West Aeromodellers'  membership ranges from pre-school toddlers to 'long since retired'. It was the pre-school toddlers bit that I was interested in (there's plenty of the other category in our hobby, I know!), and in the gallery I found this little chap on the right - young Isaac Skultety, son of club instructor Alex and thought to be the youngest member of a model flying club in Australia!

martyjarvis.jpg (11763 bytes)Here's the other member I was particularly interested in - Marty Jarvis, Webmaster, Club Newsletter editor and ModelFlight visitor. Tell us about that amazing model, Marty!
