Hi friends,

Although ModelFlight is wide open to enthusiasts of all model flight persuasions, it does have a tendency to predominantly feature radio-controlled powered models, both fixed wing and rotary - which may broadly reflect the model flight world, of course, although I have no statistics to prove it. I am therefore always particularly pleased to hear from enthusiasts from other branches of the hobby. Quite recently we heard from Chris Knowles, an accomplished competition glider pilot, and my good friend Tore Loodin has also contributed some nice stuff in recent weeks on the indoor and slow-flying scene in Sweden, and on the next issue we learn a bit about the movement in Denmark from Michael Henrikson. Coupled with that, we hear from slope-soarer Dennis Watson and rubber-powered enthusiast Ves, both of whom I hope might contribute again on their particular enthusiasms.

I was interested to read that RICHARD CRAPP has been selected for the UK team to fly in the F4C European Championships in Spain this year, along with Mick Reeves and Geoff Brown, with Mike Trew as the reserve. I remember reading some time ago that Richard was going to have to get the weight down on his beautiful Waco, though, to meet the competition specification and, according to R/C Model World, the removal of the sound system and flashing gun fire lights on his remarkable model should make that easily possible. I know that Richard has visited ModelFlight from time to time, so if you are reading this, Richard, congratulations and all the best! If it's not giving any secrets away, do confirm what you're going to do about the weight problem (on your model, I mean!) and please keep us posted on the competition.

I've made a start on my Sig Citabria and am daring to feature the build on models in the making. Being such a beginner at this building lark, I feel a bit vulnerable in 'going public' with the project, but in a hobby where nobody seems to worry about sharing their mistakes and displaying the outcome of them with pictures of stunning crashes, what the heck?

Regards to all,
