  • Here's where we take a look at other websites of model-flight interest. It might be a commercial site or one belonging to another enthusiast or specialist group. Let me know if you've come across a nice site that you think is worth a look - it could, of course, be your site if you let me know your URL!

This is the title of a very interesting site of particular interest to model helicopter enthusiasts.

The site belongs to Dr. Joćo Freire, or 'Viper' as he is known on the net and in the model heli world, and who hails from Brazil. 28-year old Joćo and his wife, Roberta, are both regularly to be seen on the international heli competition circuit and Joäo's name and cheerful face frequently pops up in the heli modelling press. He is, I believe, twice F3C Vice-Champion of Brazil, gained second place in the F3C competition at the South and Pan American Championships held in Uruguay last March and certainly flew in the 1999 World Championships in Poland.

Although Helimodelling is clearly a commercial site, it is also something of a personal one, as Viper offers various services but at the same time uses the site to share his personal enthusiasm for the sport. His opening page, shown on the left, portrays a selection of fine cabin paint jobs, this being one of the services he offers. You can also see a close-up of some his recent handiwork on the photo gallery page.

Other pages linked to the home page, are movie pictures, texts, links, products, tips and speak to Joćo Freire and across these you will discover a host of interesting heli-related things.

Viper's products include videos, fuels and an interesting range of protective covers for those precious model helicopters, with individual covers being available for the cabin, main rotor, horizontal stab, rudder, and tail rotor. The cabin cover retails at US$20 whilst all the others are priced at just US$7 and the full set of covers is available for US$45 - all prices excluding freighting costs.

The movie pictures page promises some interesting video, including some night flying for which this man seems something of an expert. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a look as I didn't have the required Real Player to view the footage and my attempts to download the software failed!

There are some interesting topics covered on the texts page, too, where the FA1 manoeuvres are set out; other subjects include Is it hard to fly model helicopters and Relative Control.
