No 26
January 13, 2001
Hi
friends,
Look at
that issue number - 26. That means that with this update, ModelFlight
has been going for one full year!
The first issue was dated January 30th 2000, and the site has been fully updated
on a fortnightly basis ever since, with just a couple of repeat items along the
way.
It's all down to you, of course,
because 90% or more of what appears here comes from those of you who contribute
items for the pages on the site, and I want to once again thank you for your
support and encouragement. From my point of view, I have 'met' scores of
fellow-enthusiasts from all over the world, all of whom have been friendly, helpful and
complimentary in their reception of ModelFlight
(with the exception of that time
when I upset a couple of chaps on the newsgroups by publicising my site too
frequently for their liking!). We've seen some beautiful models,
and are progressing Steve Bolin's B-17 project. We have a couple more to
progress now, and on this issue I'm launching a new occasional 'models in the
making' page which is accessible from the photo gallery page. I hope you will
enjoy it and consider contributing to it with pictures and notes of your own
projects. Please tell me what you think of it - politely, of course!
ModelFlight remains
an informal friendly club, rather than a magazine, with between five and six
hundred regular 'members' dropping in every two weeks. There is no
advertising in the commercial sense (any products mentioned are purely my own
choice and because I think you, too, may find them of interest) and the site
generates no revenue whatsoever. We have no permanent
contributors and visitor numbers are very much lower than sites like the new RCezine
that I told you about on #25 (although our 'membership' increases by a few with
each update). Its continuation depends entirely on your visits and your
participation, and I very much hope you will be pleased to continue with both.
If you haven't sent anything in before, please have a go - lots of people say
they really enjoy seeing their material on the web and there really is a lot of
interest. Letters for the post box, pictures of your models, articles, personal
profiles, interesting products, club details and your own or other interesting web sites are all very
welcome.
I still
get requests for back-issues from time to time and you will see elsewhere on
this issue that I can repeat selected items when requested, but I cannot make
the full archive permanently available on the web. On #27, I hope to launch a
simple, low-tech system for you to identify and request back-items that might
interest you through a new 'take your pick' page.
Regards to
all,
