If your national flag isn't shown, it's because you haven't written to ModelFlight yet . . . !

from GEORGE JARVIS - a new flyer from Newfoundland, Canada

Just a note of hallo from a new R/C flyer in Newfoundland, Canada.

sig kadet mk11.jpg (30793 bytes)I finished my Sig Kadet Mark II late in the fall and only got four flights in before the weather shut down. I've just built a pair of skis from a pop container cut-out. Hope to do some winter flying with an instructor.

I have my second kit, the Sig Four Star 60, just about ready to cover. I have a new OS FS91 4-stroke to install in the Four Star. I got very lucky late in the fall and a new friend gave me a second-hand Dragon Lady. I purchased an ASP 61 2-stroke from him to go with it. I'm really looking forward to the spring and good flying weather.

Welcome to ModelFlight, George. We're building up quite a strong connection with enthusiasts in Newfoundland. I wonder if you know of St John's R/C Flyers? How about sending us a sketch of your ski-conversion - and please let us know how you get on flying on skis - something lots of us never experience, but our current weather here in England makes it worthwhile thinking about it!

a COMPLAINT from Tore Loodin of Stockholm, Sweden

Thank you for the new copy of Modelflight (#24).

For once I actually have a complaint! The "cats corner" doesn't show any cat at all! Rather disappointing I may say. As a remedy, we enclose the Siamese Caesar listening for a mouse at our summer meadow.

Then, we send drawing of my Super Scorpion down-scaled to 25-inch span. It will be r/c controlled indoors and outdoors when suitable weather hits us. Enclosed also is a 1/2A Puffin, the favourite moped flyer*, about to land at Påldalen RC aerodrome.

Later on, we will tell you about the organisation of the Swedish model movement; it has a site but unfortunately only in Swedish.

tloodin@hotmail.com

I know you are s-cat-ty about your cats, Tore, so I'm not surprised at your complaint! Thanks for the picture - Caesar has already taken up residence on the cats corner page!

It will be interesting to read about the Swedish set-up; I've visited the site and find that there is now an English translation available, so if Tore sends in the information I will also feature the site and grab a picture or two to accompany it.

I think it would be good to read about the way things are organised in other countries (I remember Marc de Douallier was hoping to tell us about the South African scene - where are you, Marc?), so if you feel like writing something up, I will be delighted to publish it here on ModelFlight.

*Tore sometimes goes off to the flying field carrying his model on a moped - we're waiting for a picture of this. I shudder to think what happens if a sudden gust of wind catches his wing!

On the question of transmitter modes, Denis Wolff wrote:

Mode 2 is as full-size, so what's the problem?

denis.wolff@virgin.net

Not a problem as such, I guess, but just interested in people's preferences and reasons for them. Mind you, somebody said to me it depends which seat you're in as to whether Mode 2 really is as full-size, whilst somebody else commented that it's a bit different when you're not actually in the cockpit!

. . . whilst from JOHNY HOLLINSHEAD came this interesting viewpoint:

. . . my only comment is that without the use of buddy leads, I have found that the learner, being right-handed, can hold the set with the left hand and "twiddle" the stick without altering the throttle setting. This enables them to learning basic controls and movements at initial stages, i.e., figures of eight, left and right hand circuits, which shouldn't require throttle or rudder inputs. Just a thought, because in the end it's individual and trainer-availability choices.

Thanks for the input, Johny, and nice to meet you! Hope to hear more from you . . .

a couple of requests for help - and welcome to ModelFlight, gentlemen!
1. storage
from Geoff Graham, Lincs., UK

Seeing the picture of Chris Hardie in front of some of his gear (ModelFlight #24), I am reminded that I still have not solved the problem of efficiently storing my own various models, e.g., T180, J3, Jnr 60, Purbeck Graffiti and so on. Power and glider types and space is a problem. Has anyone got pictures and tips on making up wing storage and fuz storage racks?

geoffers@ntlworld.com

I'm sure there are a good few of us would be interested in answers to this question, so please let us know how you store your models and I'll share the information here on ModelFlight.

Click here to see how I currently store a couple of my models in a small shed. I'm hoping to put up some sort of racking when I get my new garage, so I am very keen to see what ideas others may have.

2. office furniture
from Ron Horrell, Cornwall, UK

. . . Denis Wolff was good enough to introduce us - did he tell you that we are members of the same model flying club? In fact, I am the Secretary. The name of the club is Trevallett and we fly at a disused wartime airfield. At this moment I am building a Precedent Stampe which I hope to finish in the Rothmans colours. I have plenty of detailed photographs mostly provided by David Boddington, but none of them show the actual seats - can you help on this?

ronhorrell@supanet.com

I've been browsing around to try and find an answer for Ron, but so far to no avail. If you can help, please reply to ModelFlight so we can all have a look and I'll also forward all information to Ron.
