LETCHWORTH
MODEL AERONAUTICAL
SOCIETY
LETCHWORTH MODEL AERONAUTICAL SOCIETY is a
model aero club located in the south of England within the boundaries of
Letchworth, Hertfordshire. The club has been in existence
since it was formed by a small group of enthusiastic builders and flyers
in October, 1938 - that makes it one of the oldest-established clubs in
the country. The current President is one of the surviving members from
the inaugural meeting of the club.
LMAS is dedicated to the furtherance of model flying,
both free flight and radio-controlled. Their flying site locations mean
that they can only safely accommodate small free-flight models, and it
would appear that their major activity lies with r/c model flight.
The club is fortunate in having two sites available
for its members - a silent flight site at Wilbury Hill Farm and a site
for those noisy i/c engines that we all love, located at the Letchworth
Rugby Club - flying here is on Sunday afternoons, weather and rugby
permitting! The Wilbury Hill Farm site has a small club hut which
provides a nice little meeting place (even when the weather won't permit
flying, I bet!) and provides facilities for storage of club equipment,
model building and committee meetings.
The
club has a smart, easy-to-browse, website with pages featuring club and
membership information, guest book, items for sale, links and a page of
good advice for beginners. There is also a good picture gallery which is
currently displaying sixteen thumbnail images of members' models. I have
put a few of them up on the photo gallery
page for your enjoyment.
