It's true! It would be good to meet YOU on this personal profile page, so please join the fun and send some details of yourself, your family, modelling and other interests and anything else you care to tell us about and let's get to know you!

You can either e-mail your information from the post-box at the foot of this page or use the Response Form below - and if you've got a picture of yourself, so much the better!

I had this Personal Profile up and ready to go on ModelFlight  some weeks ago, but then Alistair got himself posted to Kosovo where he was not going to have easy access to a PC. Al is now home on two weeks' leave, so here it is now so that he, too, can see it whilst it's on the web.

Have a good leave, Al, and I hope I might see you at the club whilst you're home!

this is ALISTAIR TURNER

from Andover, Hampshire, UK

Alistair is 31 years of age, married to Michelle and they have three children, Stephen (10), Holly (6) and Caitin (3). Alistair works for H.M. Government.

Alistair is a member of the Test Valley Model Flying Club where he currently flies a fixed-wing trainer, being in the early stages of learning the hobby "after being a born-again flyer!" he says. He has been in the hobby for just about one year.

His plane (which was also up on ModelFlight #15) is a Thunder Tiger "Tiger Trainer" with an Irvine ·40 2-stroke up front and fitted with the HAL 2100 auto-pilot and GWS FS1 failsafe which he has not yet been required to use! The trainer is piloted with a Sanwa "Vanguard" 6-channel transmitter utilising 4 channels for all the standard trainer requirements and channel 5, normally reserved for flaps, being used as his HAL control if required. The plane has a wingspan of 61" and a length of 51" and Al says she "is very forgiving to fly, with a very slow glide to approach which makes life easy, hence not using the autopilot yet".

Alistair's other principal interest is motorcycles. At the moment he owns a Yamaha Diversion 600 cc which is two and a half years old.

Here's someone who has appeared on the post box page a few times and some of you may remember his earlier profile

DENIS WOLFF

Denis is 67 years old and is a retired flight engineer.

He is now single and lives in Lesnewth, Cornwall, UK. He's thankful that his three grown-up children are all alive and doing well.

Denis's modelling interests lie in fixed-wing and, as he gets older, with more emphasis on vintage. I know from earlier correspondence that Denis is particularly keen on diesel engines for his models - in particular, he likes the smell and the fact that they don't need a starter.

Denis has been in the model aircraft game over a period of 55 years, less 10 years whilst he was on full size, during which time he has been into most types of flying. I recall him speaking of the attraction of control-line flying and the experience of really 'feeling' the aircraft flying by virtue of the direct control.

Denis flies with the Trevallet (Launceston) model flying club which meets at Davidstow airfield. Ill health and lousy weather have prevented him getting much flying in this year, and he's thinking of turning to small hand-launch models as he has trouble getting up and down to attend to the model on the ground.

Here's what's in the Wolff hangar:

  • Hepcat (Mills 1·3)
  • Radio Queen (Irvine ·40 diesel)
  • Junior 60 (Saito 45 FS)
  • "an electric job" (Graup 600)
  • Mannock (OS 60 FS)
  • Super 60 (ED Miles 5 cc)
  • plus many engines waiting to fly!

Thanks for that, Denis; keep in touch.

Join in the fun, send ModelFlight an e-mail and tell us about yourself, your family, hobbies and interests, what you do for a living, how long you've been model-making, what club you belong to, etc. - in fact as much or as little as you see fit. Include a picture of yourself if you can.

Your e-mail address will be shown unless you specifically ask for it not to appear. Picture files ideally need to be in JPG format for best colour reproduction and to minimise time on-line.

If you want to send me pictures by conventional mail, my address is
