| For the
first time on ModelFlight, we're looking at a
fellow-enthusiast's site, and a very nice one at that! |
FUBAR HILL is the site of ERIC KLER
and although Eric was too bashful to submit his own personal profile, I
have gleaned enough from his site to be able to tell you just a little
bit about him.
Eric
has been flying r/c for
about nine years and apart from his obvious
love of aero modelling, he owns and operates a ranch
in South-East Wyoming, USA, with his wife Vickie and daughter
Kayla. Vickie
also runs a home-based home-made goatmilk soap business, so if you want
give your wife an unusual present, take a look at Kayla's
website!
Eric's
site exudes his enthusiasm for model flight and contains many
interesting and varied pages. There's a great sense of humour evident on
many of them, especially those featuring his club and its members, which
is really at the centre of the site. Fubar Hill itself is Eric's
nickname for his club field and is an acronym, the definition of which
can only be discovered by visiting his site! If I revealed it here, I
would lose my family website rating!
Pages
on Fubar Hill cover amusing incidents and stories, like the High
Speed Potato Digger page, How It All Started and Auction
Day, whilst Engine Performance and Tips and Techniques
cover more serious subjects. That's a potato digger on the right, with
the harvested spud nicely speared on what might once have been a
wingtip!
Eric has a nice group of pages called Current
Planes, where there are pages dedicated to particular models, e.g.,
Dragon Lady's, Sig Hog Bipes, Piper Cubs, etc., and they carry some
great pictures of these models made by Eric and others. I'm going to put
a clutch of Dragon Lady models up on the next ModelFlight
for you to see and here are a couple of shots off the page covering Piper
Cubs.

This
beauty in the left is Dave Collis's 1/3 scale Balsa
USA Cub, powered by a Zenoah G62.
On the right is Roly's
1/4 scale Sig Clipped Wing Cub. Roly has given this the
full scale treatment, including a complete interior and all the
mods that were done to the full-size Cub. |

Eric's site is a great deal more inter-active than mine and features an
up-to-date weather report, a forum and a guest book which you can sign
and read. It's good fun, and from his list of items Coming Soon and
Not So Soon there are some good things to look forward to.
