If your national flag isn't shown, it's because you haven't written to ModelFlight yet . . . !

There's a strong American flavour to post-box this time and the first two items uncover some interesting side-lines that Modelflighters and/or their wives get up to!

TROY STARK wrote to recommend a website:

Laramie Barnstormers in Laramie, Wyoming, web #2 is the one you want. It will be updated this winter as I get time. Right now, I need to fly every chance I get - winter is real close.

tstark@wyoming.com

troysite.jpg (113494 bytes)Troy hosts the Barnstormers website on his own personal site, which prompted me to take a look. There I discovered that Troy and his wife, Elaine, are gifted artists. If you want to be nosey, too, take a look at a full-size screenshot of their site by clicking on this thumbnail. Remember, though, that you are looking at a screenshot and not a live site, so don't start clicking on his thumbnails! Click the Back button at the top of your live browser to return here, of course. If you want to see the larger views of Troy and Elaine's paintings or do business, then go to http://w3.wyoming.com/~tstark

There has been a link to the Barnstormers site on the links page since May, when we first heard from Troy. I've put a couple of model pictures from the site up on the photo gallery page this time, and we will visit the site again after Troy has done his update.

New contact #1 - ERIC KLER, also from Wyoming, USA

There is a virtual visit to CHEYENNE RADIO CONTROL CLUB, Wyoming, USA on the club scene page. I made contact with their webmaster, ERIC KLER to check out one or two things, including to ask him if the picture of their club field was a real photo since I thought it might have been computer processed in some way. Eric replied:

. . . Actually, I have been to your site a few times and enjoyed it. Yeah, that was a real picture, in fact, all of those are real; the only thing I have done is to clean them up so they are in focus. I did take it with a digital camera and had to put 2 or 3 images together to make the panoramic effect.
I will also pass along to my club members what you're doing and ask them to e-mail some stuff to you about the club if you want.

ekranch@scottsbluff.net

Now, I couldn't get enough out of Eric himself to do a full 'personal profile' on him - he said he was too bashful! However, with his blessing, I took a look at his personal website and I have featured it on site seeing where you can also find out what Mrs Kler likes to do with her time. I'm very much hoping I might hear more from CRCC members - if you read this, lads, let's be hearing from you!

New contact #2 - MATT HALTON from Southend-on-Sea, England

Hello Reg,
My name is Matt. I wonder if you would be interested in posting a picture of my just finished Grumman F-14 Tomcat. The model is an own design, although of exact scale dimensions, cross section and outline. The model is to be powered initially with a conventional prop motor in the nose. The second model I have started on will be powered by twin electric ducted fan motors.

There has been considerable interest from other people that have seen it, so I am about to produce drawings to sell, with a moulded canopy and tailpipe mouldings - a kind of 'plan pack' (that is if it flies, of course!). I will keep you updated.

planeplans@lineone.net

I was very interested in including Matt's model on photo gallery - it's a real beauty!

not for the squeamish . . .

JOHN HUBBARD wrote from Independence, Oregon

Hey Reg! I don't know if I should do this but oh well, lol, it is mine! Do you want to see what a Vigor looks like after a mid-air? Take a look at this address. Also, if you want to put this address in ModelFlight, go for it!
There are a lot of pics in this from our September Funfly with the one and only Curtis Youngblood.

rcpilots@worldnet.att.net

sad.jpg (7546 bytes)OK, so I took a look myself. If you think you can bear to look, click on this inverse smiley!
Thanks, John, you're a sport! Believe it or not, the other guy was actually able to land and needed only the usual blades and feathering spindle to repair!

The address that John refers to is the URL of his home club, Cascade Rotary Wings, where there is a large directory of picture files you can browse around. There's a permanent link to the site on the links page and the address is http://www.cascaderotorywings.org and we will have a look at it on Modelflight #21.

Now have a look on the photo gallery page to see some happier shots taken on the big day!

an update from Bob Nicoll

Just a note to inform you that our club website has moved to

http://freespace.virgin.net/highpeak.mac

Look forward to your next offering . . .

sideshow.bob@virgin.net

. . . and I look forward to your next ModelFlight offering, too, Bob.

Thanks for the info,  I've updated the permanent link to your club on the links page.

STEVE BOLIN reporting . . .

Hello Reg

The First Lady (that's Steve's wife, Joanne) and I just got back from the Bahamas last week. What a blast! We flew (yahoo!) to Miami then took a cruise ship to Nassau and finally to Coco Cay. Beautiful white sand beaches in Coco Cay and 90 degree sun.

I'm still working on the servo installation in the tail section in the B-17. Had to scrap first attempts with the tray. Now I've omitted the tray and will proceed to install two of the three servos in the stab section inside the fuselage.

My intention with all this is to justify several more photos all at once to send to you.

Even took my new plans of a 27% scale Cessna 321C. This is an attractive twin project, probably the next in line.

The ship had a conference room I hogged out for several hours and ran into a chap from St. Louis named Mark who enjoys large scale gliders. Small world, Reg.

Thanks, Steve - holiday sounds great!

When Steve's photos come to hand, I will update the pictorial record of his large-scale B-17 project that we first saw on ModelFlight #12.
