Hi friends,

My ATS Kite is finished and awaits its test flight, weather and Gordon permitting! I am pleased with the way the covering went; I have used GlossTex in Stinson Green and Orange for covering and trimming and found this material very nice to work with - I like its glossy fabric finish, too. It is just over twice the price of the SolarFilm which I used on my Yamamoto but its heavier substance certainly makes for easier working as well as giving added strength to the model. The underside of the Kite is finished completely in the strong orange colour, so I should have no difficulty in knowing which way up she is! I was thinking of using my ·46 Irvine engine from the Yamamoto, but the supplied engine mount is too small to take it. The firewall is pre-drilled to take this mount, and I was a bit concerned that the new holes needed for the bigger one would be just too close for comfort to the existing ones and the resultant pairs of adjacent holes might even break through so I have played safe and fitted a new ·40 size CS engine, thus leaving the Yamamoto ready to fly. In keeping with my custom to name my models after the girls in my family, the Kite will be named "Sue" after my eldest daughter.

There is a bumper crop of pictures on the photo gallery page this time, so it might take a little longer than usual to download, although all but two of them are thumbnails, so that should help. Some of your models really make me envious of your model-making skills, but they are certainly a delight to look at, despite the envy!

By the way, if you're a new parent or grandparent and fancy the idea of a small web site to announce the arrive of the little progeny and show him or her off to your friends and family, you might be interested in looking at http://www.littlecitizens.co.uk where a very reasonably-priced service for design and maintenance of such a site is being offered. I'd better declare my interest, though - it's my son's idea that he's trying to get off the ground!

Regards to all and, as I said last time, please keep in touch with your news and views, pictures and profiles!
