| DENIS
WOLFF has been in
touch with a couple of queries . . .
Hi Reg,
I've just acquired a brand-new Hirtenberger HP 49 VT 4-stroke with no
instructions - need to know prop size, etc., and why there are two fuel
nipples, also a fish tank tee-piece in the box.
Also, Reg, been ill and I think I may have missed some of the mails on
ModelFlight 14 and 15.
. . . I am still not ready to fly - major heart disease is a no-no.
Having given up full-size and motor cycling, I am determined to fly one
of my many models again. I am thinking of getting a camper van so I can
rest and make tea between flights.
I have been trying to find out about Starspan covering. Marsden mentions
it in September Model World and that it is supplied by FMK, but
can't find them anywhere. P'raps one of your club know about this secret
substance? denis.wolff@virgin.net |
First of all, Denis, I'm sorry
to read you haven't been well. I really admire your fighting spirit,
though, and I'm sure that goes for all ModelFlighters! That camper van sounds a great
idea and doubtless the tea-making potential will be well-received by
everybody on the field!
I tracked down an on-line manual for the Hirtenberger HP VT engines from
MEOC's website (see the site seeing page) and
sent the file to Denis. On the question of the fish tank tee-piece,
though, by a strange coincidence just before Denis's e-mail arrived, I had been reading Aeromodeller's
Anonymous written by Nigel Hawes and Graham Iredale in the current
(September) issue of R/C Model World and there was one suggestion for
the use of just that very thing (Denis must have missed it)! The idea
was to use the tee-piece as a junction in the fuel delivery pipe of your
engine as a means of filling the tank when you don't have a separate
filler line. Also suggested, was the use of a little plastic G-clamp
(also from the aquarium supply shop) to clamp the pipe on the engine
side to avoid flooding the engine whilst fuelling. These little items
cost about 30p each!
Can anybody advise Denis on a source of
supply for Starspan, please? I scoured the web on Starspan and FMK, but could only find
links to a German telecommunications company and scores of martial arts
sites!

CARL LADEN -
having a bad time!
Craig forwarded your site
address around the club - nice, very nice. As the owner of two of the
re-kitted planes in the Gander photo, I appreciate the not sharing gory
details.
I've been at this hobby for almost 20 years and I've never had a season
like this one. I haven't had a serious incident in 5 to 6 years; so far
this summer I've had 5!
I've included a photo of my CAP 10B - it's a scratch-built and designed
plane. It's one of the design finalists featured in the October '00
issue of Model Airplane News.
Thanks for all the coverage of Newfoundland events.
laydenc@nbnet.nb.ca
Thanks for your encouragement re the
site, Carl. Sorry to read of your bad run, hope it's over now! Congratulations
on your success with your plane.
You can see Carl's pictures on the photo
gallery page.
Carl is Director of the Atlantic Zone of the Model Association of Canada
and his personal profile will up on the next edition of ModelFlight.

JOHN
NOEL says thanks
Hi,
I am a fellow R/C modeller and a member of the St. John's R/C Flyers. I
attended the fun-fly in Gander and I want to say thanks for posting the
photos on your webpage. I guess Craig has told you all about this event
and how the town of Gander goes out of their way to accommodate us. Did
Craig mention that we get to store our models in the hangar with the
Labrador helicopters?
Besides all that, you are doing a great job with the webpage and have
bookmarked it and will be a regular visitor.
jnoel@nf.sympatico.ca
Thanks for making contact John and I
appreciate your thanks.
I'm chuffed to know you'll visit the site regularly and I hope to hear
from you again.
Craig didn't say much about the Gander event itself, but did send a
great portfolio of pics - there are five more on the photo
gallery page again. Judging by the number of folk on the spectator
line, the Gander fun-fly is clearly a popular event.

| Here's
BOB NICOL with news of those secret projects referred to a few weeks ago
. . .
The pictures of the secret projects will be
coming to you within the next two weeks. I have had a sneak preview of
one of them - a 1/4 scale CAP 232 with OS FX160. When I have a group of
pictures, I will forward them too.
Have been getting the hours in in this fine weather, making the most of
it before winter arrives - will still fly, but well wrapped up.
Don't forget, if you are in the area, contact me and we can get some
flying in.
Fly 'em safe and have fun.

Two of the promised pictures arrived
just in time to add to the photo gallery
page, and they are beautiful! Thanks for the promise of more to come, and for the kind
invitation, Bob.

I just had a look at

yet attractive and functional.
