  • Here's an item or two from the latest catalogues, magazine advertising or websites  - not  necessarily all new products on the market, but items large and small that will be of interest.

Having a natter in the local model shop a few days ago, we were wondering where all the Precedent kits had gone from the Ripmax handbook. Well, they're all here in  BALSACRAFT's latest catalogue, available FREE from Balsacraft if requested via their website or e-mail. It's in a handy A5 format and its 120 pages are jam-packed with all sorts of goodies including kits, engines, radios, accessories and, of course, balsa. All sorts of accessories are tucked away here, illustrated with neat  line drawings.

I'm just starting building, and it was from the Balsacraft catalogue that I was able to order a couple of accessories recommended to me by my club's recognised building expert, Chris Hardie. So, with my catalogue to hand, here they are!

Balsacraft's Building Jig for producing square fuselages and warp-free wings! All you need is a flat board - chipboard or the like  - 1/2" - 5/8" (12mm - 15mm) thick. The printed self-adhesive grid measuring 48" x 15" is stuck onto the board. Holes are drilled where indicated and captive nuts are drawn into the underside using the bolts provided. The moulded angles are slotted so that using the bolts and moulded washers, the angles can be accurately positioned as required. 56 captive nuts are provided together with 10 angles complete with locking bolts and washers. Full instructions provided; additional angles, captive nuts, bolts and washers are available if required. Cost, £12.95.

Balsacraft reckon this is the only balsa stripper they've seen that really works. The unit comes with an aluminium 'U' channel, 1 metre long, which has a strong double-sided tape fixed to the underside. This is fixed down to either your model bench or a separate piece of wood - melamine faced chipboard, for example. Thickness spacers are provided for all the popular sizes. One or more of these are put into the carrier and this is slid into the 'U' channel and the carrier is drawn down the channel and you've got an accurate strip of wood of the grade you wanted at a fraction of the cost. Don't throw away the off-cuts from kits - turn them into stock! Hardwood and even plywood can be stripped in a similar manner, but you need to make several passes depending on the thickness and hardness. The blades are a standard type and easily available. The set comprises of carrier, 'U' channel, spacers and blade, plus full instructions. Cost £9.25 and spare blades £1.15 for four.
