Hi friends,
I thought I was going to join that happy band of internet
users who do not have to pay for telephone time on the net when I signed up last week for
a tempting offer from LineOne/Quip which promised free internet time 24 hours
per day and seven days a week, with the only condition being £5 worth of
national and international calls per month through the Quip telephone service.
Three days after signing up, they informed me (and, doubtless, tens of thousands
of others) that the response to their offer had been so overwhelming that they
had decided to withdraw it altogether on the basis that they would be unable to maintain a
good enough service! If that was really the case, why didn't they withdraw
the offer once they had reached the ceiling that they did consider was
manageable on their servers and honour their promise to those who had signed up,
instead of withdrawing it completely? By then, of course, they had gained
thousands of new users to their phone service, which was really what it was all
about, I reckon. I hate that sort of 'smart-alec' marketing, so even though their phone
deal is not bad, I cancelled my account and will wait for some more honest deal
to come my way!
I have done very little flying in recent weeks, as family
events and holidays are meaning that I've regrettably been absent from the club
field at the weekends, even though
we have at last been getting some really good weather. I did manage
to get to the field mid-week this week, though (July 26), and thoroughly enjoyed
some take-off and landing practice. Gordon reckons I should let you know my
progress from time to time and says I can report good progress after a couple of
particularly good landings!
I'm away for the best part of the next two weeks -
we're doing a house swap with a friend - so it may prove difficult to
produce ModelFlight #15 to my usual timetable. All the same, I
will make sure that I let you know when the next one goes up on the
web.
Regards to all,
