As promised in ModelFlight #9, it's time to meet MARTIN WILKINSON
MARTIN is 42 years old and has been modelling ever since he could hold a craft knife!

He has been through free-flight gliders, rubber and power, control-line and all sorts of radio-controlled models, including helicopters. Martin says his niche has been established for a number of years in large-scale r/c, with many of his models being his own designs.

Martin's modelling output has shrunk drastically in the last few years, since he got married, but he is getting going again properly this year.

Martin is a member of the Bury Metro Model Club, UK, and the BMFA and he holds BMFA 'A', 'B' and examiner certificates for fixed wing r/c power.

Here's a couple of Martin's superb looking models and there are three more on the photo gallery page.

Now let me introduce RICHARD STREET

Richard is a Freelance Trainer (computers, I wonder?), aged 27 and lives in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He is into both helicopters and fixed-wing, flying a Concept 32vr heli, an SAS "thing", 1m wingspan with OS ·15 engine, a Great Planes Decathlon with OS ·70 Surpass, an Acrostar with OS ·46 and a Modeltech Calypso waiting to be finished. Martin flies with the Edinburgh & Lothians Model Flying Club.

As far as other interests are concerned, Martin has started working on his full-size Private Pilots Licence but has had to take a break "while the credit card recovers", he says! He also loves kites big enough to drag him around the local park on a windy day, which he reckons is a good work-out for sure!

Martin has been flying his Concept for only 2 or 3 months now and has put around 2 US gallons through it but "thanks to RealFlight I picked up the controls quickly and am happily throwing it round in circuits. I need to move on to autorotations now. This is where it gets scary!" Here's the Concept under construction and the finished job is on the photo gallery page.

and here is STEVEN R BOLIN
from Kent, Washington

Steven works in the construction industry and hails from Kent, Washington, USA. He's 40 years old and married to Joanne and they have four children - Kendra, Benjamin and Jennifer from Joanne's previous marriage and Seth "between us" as Steve so nicely puts it. What he describes as "a blended family, if you will" - I like that!. (A couple of nice Biblical names there, too.)

As far as Steve's modelling interests are concerned, he's recently virtually started all over again - some time ago he decided to clean closets and got rid of several models - he says he just wasn't interested any more at that time. His preference now is scale aircraft and giant scale at that, although he could see himself with a glider or helicopter or a slow park flyer, electric or otherwise.

Right now, though, Steve has just two models. He has just finished a 1/5th scale Mustang with an 84·5" wingspan weighing in at 21lbs . It uses a U.S. Engines 41 motor, and it's finished in post-war colours.

The Mustang was Steve's first scale project of any kind and he's mailed me a picture or two which are on the photo gallery page - take a look, it's fantastic!

The other plane Steve started to build on the evening of May 18 is the Don Smith B-17G which he mentioned in his letter in ModelFlight #9. It is a 1/9th scale aircraft with a 138" wingspan , 100" fuselage, estimated weight 44 - 48 lbs (phew, what a spec!). Steve is not sure what power plant to instal yet, but is thinking of Laser 70s.

A bit like Paul Carr on the photo gallery page this time, Steve also has another great love in his life (as well as Joanne in this case, though) and that is playing the drums. He has a 15-piece Pearl set in sequoia red, including cymbals (I'm glad I don't live next door - I'd never be able to hear myself playing my clarinet!). He appears to play to just about any outfit and lists U-2, Journey, Rush, Stevie Nicks, Meatloaf, Bad Company, Joan Jett, Sting, The Police, The Pretenders, Queen, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, The Cars, Nirvana, Alice Couper, Dokken and Lenny Kravitz among his favourites. He's always looking out for additional cymbals to add to his outfit to create a more diverse dynamic range to his sound! Amazing!

Steve is cracking on apace with his B-17G and has already sent me a couple of progress reports. He's going to send me some pics of the build and when I receive them I will put it all together and we can all see progress to date.

Join in the fun, send ModelFlight an e-mail and tell us about yourself, your family, hobbies and interests, what you do for a living, how long you've been model-making, what club you belong to, if any - in fact as much or as little as you see fit. Include a picture of yourself if you can.

Your e-mail address will be shown unless you specifically ask for it not to appear. Picture files ideally need to be in JPG format for best colour reproduction and to minimise time on-line.
