If your national flag isn't shown, it's because you haven't written to ModelFlight yet . . . !

Had a good bit of flying recently or has the weather let you down?
Enjoyed visiting a show?
Learned something new and feeling chuffed about it?
Had a spectacular crash?
Bought a new model?
One of the kids started in the hobby?
How's that new kit progressing?
Got a question that someone might be able to answer?

There must be lots you can write to ModelFlight about, so click on the post-box at the top of the page and get in touch!

My patchwork of post kicks off with a welcome little note from MARC DE DOUALLIER from South Africa. Marc was the first guy to make contact with ModelFlight after I launched it at the end of January 2000, and his 'personal profile' appeared in Modelflight #3. He writes:

Hi Reg,
Looked at the page - looking good.
I'll try and get some snapshots of our club in South Africa and send them to you with a brief write up. I've been away for a while, but should get flying this weekend or the next, and will then take the snapshots of the facilities and aircraft flown there. Regards . . .

marc.dedouallier@didata.co.za

It's great to hear from you again, Marc, and I look forward to featuring your club on the 'club scene' page as soon as I receive your material.

nice to hear from ALEX FORREST again . . .

Hi Reg
Sorry to bother you again, but I have bent my Kyosho Soarus electric-powered sailplane. Can you recommend a suitable glue for a polypropylene fuselage?

alex@grangemouth3.freeserve.co.uk

According to JP Distribution Ltd., Alex, a damaged blow-moulded polypropylene fuselage can be repaired by using a heat gun to correct any twist and cyanoacrylate glue to fix any cracks. The thinner cyanos can be used to 'run in' along fine cracks and can apparently be sanded to restore a fine finish. A few drops of thick cyano can be used first to tack a joint in place if something has actually come apart.

By the way, how's that Twin Scorpion progressing that you told us about and that we saw in ModelFlight #4? It would be good to see another progress shot!

How we last saw it.

. . . and welcome to COLIN SMITH from somewhere in the UK, judging by his e-mail address.

Just to say I saw your site for the first time today and I think it is excellent. It's great that you are making the effort to bring modellers together in a fun (and cheap!) way, and isn't enjoying ourselves what the hobby is all about?
I am now going to think of something I can contribute; this is exciting stuff! (I can't guarantee my contribution will be though!).

flybar99@netscapeonline.co.uk

Thanks, as ever, for the compliment Colin, and I look forward to hearing further from you.

an offer from FRANK DRECCHIO.

Reg, Your site is looking better each time; keep up the good work. Your little fleet looks great. I will try to put something together for you for an upcoming edition, so readers can get a line on what's going on "On The Other Side of the Pond". Mmmm, that sounds like a neat column title. The more contributors you get, the more time you will have to fly. Let me know what you think.

FlyBar007@cs.com

I've already told Frank I like his idea and I warmly invite any of you to send information on the model flight scene in your part of the world. I would be very happy to launch a regular/occasional column for the purpose and with contacts already made from all over the world, there must be plenty of scope!

Drop in on Frank's club on the club scene page, by the way.

short and sweet
from BILL RICHMOND . . .

Hello - my name is Bill and I live in the Great State of Washington. I fly with the Thurston County Model Aviation Association. This was my first visit to your site and I found it to be very interesting. Keep up the fine work; I will make it a point to visit on a regular basis.

WRichmondB@aol.com

Thanks for visiting ModelFlight, Bill, and also for your kind comment.

I'm hoping Bill might get in touch again and tell us a bit more about himself and/or his club

a link request from MARTIN WILKINSON

Please would you consider adding a link to my site? I have a modelling site, mainly large-scale r/c and a subsection which sells vintage aircraft photo sets and scale drawings. I will add a link to you on return.

Very happy to oblige - see the new link under suppliers, etc., on the links page.

Martin has already added ModelFlight to his links (thanks, Martin) and you will be able to meet him and see some of his models in the next update of this site.

STEVEN  BOLIN made contact from Washington State:

Hello Reg, glad to see your site here - I really like it! Sounds very inviting. I myself have some photographs of a recent project just about finished. All I need is the pilot, which I'm still waiting for, to finish this project up. This is my first scale model after two gliders and two powered planes over the years.
After this one, I have a 138" wingspan B-17G that I'll be starting on next.
Well, I want to say hello to everyone and I will be more than happy to keep in touch.
Enjoyable building, and pleasurable flying.

dubolin@aol.com

Thanks for getting in touch, Steven, and don't worry about not quoting metric dimensions - there are many of us over here who still get on well with feet and inches, despite government insistence that we forget them!

Steven is hoping to mail me some photos for inclusion on the 'photo gallery' page of a later update of ModelFlight - do the same if you're not into scanning and all that business of file types! I hope we might hear more of the B17 in the future as well.

LATE NEWS FROM STEVE ON THE B17 PROJECT:

Just wanted to let you know I started on this project tonight. Just finished gluing all the bulkhead halves together. I'll be building this just like the old ships used to be. The fuselage will be built as a whole unit instead of halves. Take care, Reg, there is a lot more coming! [I take that as a promise, not a threat! - Reg]

look who's here - it's Rob!

Hi,
I just thought I'd let you know that despite Reg's comments this month [in ModelFlight #8 I asked Rob  where he had got to as I hadn't heard from him recently!], I'm still alive and arrangements for the Felixstowe 2000 model show are going well and keeping me busy. This is at the Orwell School, Maidstone Road, Felixstowe on 24th and 25th June - just a few weeks away.
Many notable pilots and traders are coming - including Mark Christy, Dick Wallinger, Len Mount, John Farren, Dave Brian, Dave Fisher and Dave Wilshere. Dave and his wife Julie run the company "Flyin' Fish" and will be providing buddy box beginner, intermediate and advanced flight instruction for those wanting to have a go with helis. Also the BMFA's Keith and Christine Lomax are running the "indoor build and fly" events for free-flight on the 25th.
On both days, electric and free-flight aircraft and helicopters will be flying with alternating flying slots. The Saturday is a club invitation day, open to anyone with BMFA insurance, and the Sunday is a public display day where anyone can come and watch, but to fly you have to have one of (a) a B license; (b) an A license and be "checked out" by one of the 4 examiners who will be there all day on the Saturday club day; or (c) be on a buddy box with an examiner, e.g., Dave Fisher/Flyin' Fish.
location.gif (60069 bytes)There is free camping on the school site. There are some hotel places left if you contact me soon.
I enclose a map showing how to find the school - [click the small map to see it in full detail - Reg].

Rob Sherratt

Great to hear from you Rob and pleased to know you're still visiting ModelFlight. Arranging this show must be a mammoth task - I wish you and your fellow organisers every success.
