Rob Sherratt's scale model helicopter
 |
These two thumbnail images are of Rob
Sherratt's Schweitzer 300, based on the Robbe Hughes 300 kit and
Mosquito XXL mechanics. Rob is currently working on a scale cabin and
pilot for inside the cockpit, but couldn't wait before getting out
flying it! Click on the thumbnail for a full-screen view and on then on

This is Rob's latest heli which he is
preparing for the Felixstowe Show this year (see the www page).
He has modified the canopy quite a lot to get it fitting right. Rob says
the standard kit is not scale - the cockpit is at least 20mm too far
forward and 25mm too low to be anything like the pukka full size bird,
so he cut it about a bit and it now fits real snug and looks great. The
mechanics didn't need any modification other than cutting an inch or so
from the front of the radio tray.Rob writes: At the moment the 300C is
giving me a lot of fun - it bounces around really reliably and looks
just like the real thing. It's helping me to fly nose-in because I get a
much better visualisation of the whole helicopter with the body being
"fatter" than the usual pod and boom, also the scale
undercarriage has real springs in it and an extra metal brace assembly,
and the tail is very rigid with four metal struts. So I think the heli
is very hard to damage on a heavy landing. Just as well, given the
number of times I've auto'd it down hard after the fuel ran out mid
flight . . . ! As you can probably tell, I'm not yet up to BMFA B test
standard, but I'm working on it. |
I'm hoping Rob will keep us posted on his progress with the
scale cabin and pilot.
You can meet Rob on the personal
profiles page and there's information about the Felixstowe Show on the www
page.

Now let's enjoy a sight of your favourite model
(aircraft or heli, of course!)
