I was struggling a bit to get my new trainer model
properly balanced fore and aft in accordance with the kit instructions. The
suggestion is that you merely have to place the receiver and battery in the
right place on the fuselage floor, but finding and then holding the correct
place is just a bit tricky. I fixed them in with a couple of strips of Velcro,
but lifting them off and then trying to re-fit them at the precise point of balance
was rather hit and miss.
My final solution was to fix the Rx and battery pack (suitably protected in soft
foam, of course!) so that the model was balancing approximately around the correct point.
Then I cyano glued a drilled light metal strip to a balsa cross spar, ensuring
that the holes of the strip extended fore and aft of the approximate point of
balance. With the wings fitted and the model supported under the wings at the
recommended point of balance, I could then determine in which direction a
little extra weight was required to achieve balance and this was added in the
form of a nut and bolt fitted to the metal strip. Further adjustment can be made
either by adding another nut or two, or moving the 'weight' further along the
strip in the required direction. [12.02.00]
