This is our section for model flyers with an interest in flight simulation - and that can cover all the mainstream programs as well as the specialist model flight simulators. I will do my best to bring you any interesting news of upgrades, add-ons, patches, etc., and am keen to hear from any of you on flightsim topics.

Have you seen this wonderful new magazine dedicated to PC flight simulation? It is a high-quality production, printed on a lovely matt paper, full colour throughout and very attractive layout. The articles are superb, there is very little advertising and the publisher keeps surprising us with some very nice unannounced freebies, so you do get value for your £4.99 issue price! The magazine is published every two months by PC Pilot Ltd and the third issue is now out, available by subscription only. For more information and to subscribe, visit www.pcpilot.net

The moans and groans about FS2000 appear to be ever-increasing, with many users expressing the view that they have been ripped off by Microsoft on this release. Some have expressed the view that FS2000 is no more than a test version of the next release due in 2002, although Microsoft are not likely to accept that too kindly!

Any way, as mentioned last time, Microsoft have issued a patch (well, two patches really, one each for the Standard and Professional versions) which set out to fix a number of problems that have surfaced since the product was issued last November. The patch includes a set of updated gauges to replace those current ones which are reckoned to be affecting performance, causing jerkiness or pauses as the aircraft turns in flight. The new gauges now accept a command or 'switch' which has to be actioned within the FS2000.cfg file. Many users are saying that the switch makes virtually no difference at all, although the gauges themselves do look a little different - they look a bit more jagged when the switch is set to 'off', so the claimed improvement in performance comes with a small price! Be warned, though, this patch is huge and takes a long time to download (the 'pro' patch is 8.8 Mb and the standard one is 6.9 Mb). You can get the patches from http://www.microsoft.com/games/fs2000/downloads_fsupdate.htm

Any Fly or Flight Unlimited III users out there who would like to tell us a bit about the products from an ordinary users point of view? Do send us an e-mail and let us know what you think of these products, or any other flightsims of which you have experience.
